Heatwave Engulfs Europe with German GP this Weekend

Mercedes and few others in trouble if heat strikes the Hockenheimring circuit in the qualifying and race day.

The heat has already troubled the silver arrows in Austria. The Mercedes drivers finished 3rd (Valteri Bottas) and 5th (Lewis Hamilton) at the Red Bull arena due to their overheating and altitude problems. Lewis Hamilton who finished first at the podium last year, even after starting at 14th says his team are in trouble if Germany stays hot. Germany recorded its highest temperature ever at 40.5 degree Celsius in the town of Geilenkirchen on Thursday.

Lewis Hamilton says: “I’d imagine, if it stays this hot, we’re going to be in trouble. “We’ve got these hot races coming up which are obviously not so easy for us, so it’s going to be a challenge.

“It’s definitely a good thing if it rains,” he added. “There’s not really much we can do, it’s a much bigger design issue that we have when it gets hot, so it’s not so easy to change… Hopefully, this weekend will be okay.”

Last year, the Hockenheimring circuit saw it raining after the 14th lap of the race, which dramatically changed the results.

Race leader, Sebastian Vettel crashed out on Lap 51 of the race, while his teammate Kimi Raikonnen finished 3rd on the podium. Mercedes had a one-two finish with Hamilton winning and Valteri Bottas finishing second, after Hamilton climbed up a massive 13 positions.

The midfield battle also heats up this weekend after Racing Point brings in two new upgrades to their car. They’ve upgraded new sidepods and floor to the vehicle.

Racing Point are suffering this season with both their drivers struggling for points. Sergio Perez stands 13th on the driver rankings with 13 points and Lance Stroll on 17th with 6 points.

Now, they fight for points against a fierce midfield of Mclaren, Alfa Romeo and Renault.

Williams will also test their new upgrades in the German Grand Prix. The new upgrades include an improvement in the bargeboard area, new floor and current spec.

Hima Das Extends Her Gold Winning Streak To 5

In the month of July itself, Hima Das has won a total of 5 gold medals in different tournaments.

India’s Hima Das clinched yet another gold for the country, taking her tally to an incredible 5 gold medals in a month. The latest gold came from her win in the 400m race in Prague, Czech Republic, on Saturday.  The Dhing Express, which she’s fondly called by her fans, clocked 52.09 seconds to complete the race which also was her season-best timing. Her personal best timing stands at 50.79 seconds which she registered in the Asian games 2018.

It was Hima’s first time competing in a 400m event after she pulled out of the 400m event in Asian Athletics Championship in April with a back spasm,

Hima’s gold medal streak began on July 2 in Poznan Athletics Grand Prix, in Poland. It was her first competitive 200m race of the year. She managed to win it with a timing of 23.65 seconds. After the fifth gold medal, Hima Das said in a tweet: “Finished 400m today on the top here in the Czech Republic today.”

Her second gold came again from the 200m event at the Kutno Athletics Meet, in Poland, on July 7. She registered a time of 23.97 seconds. On July 13, she won her third 200m gold at the Kladno Athletics Meet in Czech Republic with a time of 23.43 while her fourth gold came at the Tabor Athletics Meet also in Poland, on Wednesday, July 17.

Hima may add another gold to her tally, for the 4×400 mixed relay race team at the Asian Games which may be upgraded from silver to gold. Bahrain who won the gold medal, may lose out because of a failed dope test by their sprinter Kemi Adekayo, who participated in the event. Adeyako will potentially be handed a four year ban by Athletics Integrity Unit.

Ace Sprinter Dutee Chand Faces Ire for Revealing Same-Sex Relationship

Same-Sex relationships have always been a taboo topic in Indian culture owing to the conservative societies. The ace Indian athlete Dutee Chand is one of the victims of taboo thinking. Dutee claimed of being threatened of expulsion by her family for having a same-sex relationship. Meanwhile, her fans are continuing to support her over social media.

A few hours back, the Indian sprinter revealed her relationship with a girl of her village. She refused to reveal her “soulmate’s” name so as not to let her become “the centre of undue attention”.

Dutee Chand’s revelations left her sister fuming:

Dutee has a record of the 100m race to her name, while she won two silver medals at the Asian Games 2018.

Dutee has been India’s first athlete to come forth and accept her sexuality. It came after the historic decision made by the Supreme Court, last year. But her family is not willing to stand with the Indian athlete in her decision. Where Dutee claims of being threatened of imprisonment, her elder sister says that her partner has vested interests to lure property.

Dutee says, “My elder sister wields power and authority over my family. She has thrown out my elder brother from home because she didn’t like his wife. She has threatened that the same will happen with me also,” Dutee told PTI.

“My elder sister feels that my partner is interested in my property. She has told me that she will send me to jail for having this relationship” Dutee added.

Dutee said that her parents have not yet objected over her decision. But the knowledge of being an adult and the right to make her own decisions has led her to make her relationship public

Currently, the athlete now is preparing for the Olympics and is ready to face any repercussions thrown at her and her unknown partner.
