WWE News: New Championship Match Added to Royal Rumble

The Royal Rumble PPV is shaping up to be a huge one with multiple championship matches getting confirmed for the evening. Till date, we have learnt about five title matches from both the brands, whereas, there has been a new addition to it making the count to six.

In addition, there will be two separate Royal Rumble matches from the male and female division on January 28th at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

It was announced on the official website of the WWE that the Cruiserweight Championship would be on the line at the first dual-brand PPV of the year. The reigning champion, Enzo Amore will defend it against Cedric Alexander. This rivalry is going on for quite sometimes and might see a culmination on the PPV night.

Previously, Cedric won a fatal-4-way match and then defeated Drew Gulak in a singles contest to become the number one contender for the Cruiserweight title. His first title shot was reserved on the New Year edition of Monday Night Raw. But, Enzo was down with the flu and could not attend the show cancelling the match.

After that, he came back on the show, last week to deliver the match against his challenger. However, he suffered multiple injuries during the match. Firstly, he was busted open his eyes that needed a stitch to get fixed up. Secondly, he was down with a ruptured knee, as well after which the referee declared him as incompetent. So, the match was called off.

So, Alexander demanded another rematch and received it as confirmed on WWE.com,

“With Enzo now medically cleared to compete, Alexander will have another opportunity to silence The Certified G’s gift of gab at Royal Rumble. Will Alexander finally claim the WWE Cruiserweight Championship, or does Amore have machinations to ensure his victory? Tune into the Royal Rumble event, streaming live, Sunday, Jan. 28, on the award-winning WWE Network.”

With that being said, this is how the Royal Rumble championship match’s card looks like,

• Brock Lesnar vs. Kane vs. Braun Strowman (Universal championship)
• AJ Styles vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn (WWE championship)
• Seth Rollins & Jason Jordan vs. Cesaro & Sheamus (Raw tag team championship)
• The Usos vs. Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin (SmackDown tag team championship)
• Enzo Amore vs. Cedric Alexander (Cruiserweight championship)
• United States Championship Tournament Final
